Academic Staff Register

Information regarding persons who occupy academic positions at institutions of higher education and colleges is recorded in this Register. According to Section 87, Paragraph (4) of the Law On Institutions of Higher Education [1], higher educational institutions and colleges should electronically record information about academic staff (the given name and surname of the person; personal identity number; the name of the academic position to which the person is elected; the name of the institution of higher education or college at which such person occupies an academic position (indicating if the position is occupied in a branch thereof); the name of the structural unit if there is such; the initial date of commencement in the academic position at the relevant institution of higher education or college; the date of completion of fulfilling the academic position at the relevant institution of higher education or college; the name of the branch of science, sub-branch and educational programme group in conformity with the academic position; the date of the application; the name of the rector of the institution of higher education or the college director) into the Academic Staff Register of the State Education Information System (SEIS) not later than one week after changes have occurred, and electronically notifying the State Education Quality Service as well.

Section 87, Paragraph (1) of the Law On Institutions of Higher Education, in connection with the Paragraph 3 of the Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No.778 of August 17, 2010 “The State Education Information System content, the order of maintenance and actualisation” states that the Academic Staff Register is a component of the SEIS. According to the Paragraph 4 of the Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No.778, the SEIS is managed by the Ministry of Education and Science.

Information about academic staff in the SEIS can be updated by the authorized person of the institution of higher education or college that has the user rights to the SEIS. In this way the institution of higher education or college assumes responsibility for the reliability of the submitted information. The procedure for granting user rights to access the SEIS takes place according to the rules, i.e. by submitting an application and promissory note for withholding any personal data to the Department of Provision and Finance (2 Vaļņu Street, Rīga, LV-1050) of the Ministry of Education and Science.
